獎學金|英國劍橋大學某學院設立全額獎學金

根據英國《每日電訊報》報道，劍橋一所學院面向貧困背景學生設立了英國第一個全額獎學金，與“常春藤院校”提供的類似機會抗衡。

▎劍橋大學設立全額本科獎學金

這所學院就是劍橋大學圣約翰學院，該獎學金項目叫做“Free Places”(免費名額)財務支持方案。

根據St John’s的新計劃，這項全額獎學金覆蓋學生大學期間的所有學費、住宿費和其他日常生活費。一次將覆蓋40名本科生，符合條件的學生每年可以獲得超過￡17,000的資金支持。

一直以來哈佛、耶魯、普林斯頓等大學提供全額獎學金機會，覆蓋學生的學費和生活費，但英國是沒太有全額獎學金這個說法的。St John’s這一做法打破劍橋慣例，也打破英國以往慣例。

所有符合獎學金條件的St John’s錄取學生，將在2023-24學年自動獲得學院的獎學金。負責人表示，這個獎學金不需要償還，這樣學生畢業時就不會負債。St John’s學院表示，這一項目將適用于每年學費￡9,250的所有本科生。另外，這項獎學金還將提供住宿費和生活費，使之成為全英國最“慷慨”的獎學金項目。

三年本科下來，每名符合條件的學生將獲得總計￡51,000的經濟支持。

St John’s院長Heather Hancock表示，許多來自貧困家庭、學業成績優異的學生都不愿申請劍橋大學，因為他們擔心畢業后會陷入債務困境。

Hancock院長還介紹，她自己本科就讀的就是St John’s，她也是家里第一個上大學的人。她鼓勵大家，對來自英國低收入家庭的18歲優秀學生來說，哈佛、耶魯或其他美國藤校能夠提供全額獎學金機會，St John’s學院也希望為這些英國學生提供同樣不需要償還債務的機會，讓他們有機會在劍橋發揮自己的學術潛力。

目前，英國很多低收入家庭的優秀學生，仍然因為學費問題，決定不上大學，這是真實存在的情況。

該獎學金項目的資金來源是“Free Places”籌款活動中一比匿名1400萬英鎊的捐贈。

劍橋St John’s學院由亨利七世的母親、亨利八世的祖母瑪格麗特·博福特(Lady Margaret Beaufort)夫人于1511年創建。與博福特夫人的愿望一致，在1511年至1689年期間，圣約翰學院有50%的學生來自當時被認為是英國北部的郡縣。 多年來，這一比例已降至目前的15%左右，反映出英國北部以外大學普遍存在的格局。

一直以來英國獎學金少又難拿，這次設立了全額獎學金雖然主要是針對本土學生，但也算是非常巨大的進步了。對國際生來說，能進牛劍就是非常值得驕傲的事情了，是不拿獎學金大家也擠破頭都想進的學校。

劍橋大學已經有一大批專業關閉申請，另外不同專業的截止時間截然不同，劍橋招生辦強調，由于申請非常火爆，建議大家盡早提交申請，而不是等到截止日期。
