A time when I felt proud of a family member happened last year when my grandpa got a commemorative medallion from the central government of China.

一次我為家人感到驕傲的經歷發生在去年。當時，我爺爺收到了政府的紀念獎章。

He was my grandpa and role model. You know, 70 years ago, he volunteered in the Korean War for the Movement of Resisting U. S and Aiding North Korea. You know, during that age, the people in our country were suffering quite a lot physically and mentally from wars both at home and abroad. There was a significant shortage of labor, food resources, and obviously troops to fight against the invasion from foreign powers.

他是我爺爺也是我的楷模。七十年前，他參加了抗美援朝戰爭。在那個年代，我們國家的人們因為海內外的戰爭遭受了精神和身體上的創傷。當時人力、食物資源嚴重匱乏，顯然抵御外國勢力入侵的軍隊也不夠。

So, he decided to make his limited effort to fight in the war. It was not an easy thing to do so. To get fully prepared for it, he quit  his job, and this article is from Laokaoya website, arranged everything he could for the family so that they wouldn’t have many difficulties of living, which was quite hard to do at the time where most people hadn’t even get rid of poverty.

所以，他當時貢獻了自己有限的力量參加了戰爭。做出這個決定并不是件容易的事情。為了準備好一切，他辭了職，把家庭安頓好以便他們不會受太多生活的苦。在那個多數人都還沒有脫貧的情況下要做好這件事十分艱難。

Well, the reason why I felt proud of him was that he was willing to sacrifice himself for others, including the family and the country. You know, as a person living in a peaceful time I just can’t imagine how much courage it would take to have such a big sacrifice. You know, most of us were scared to death because of the covid, not to mention participating in a mission in the warzone.

我為他感到驕傲是因為他愿意為了家人還有國家犧牲自己。作為一個生活在和平年代的我來說，完全不敢想象做出這樣大的犧牲需要花多少勇氣。因為個新冠疫情我們很多人都怕得要死，更不用提去戰區完成使命了。
