I shared something interesting about psychology with my colleagues last month to improve the sanitation of the bathroom in our office, and it worked pretty well.

There is a psychology theory called broken windows effect, which points out that if an area showed small amounts of destruction, such as a broken window or graffiti on a wall, the vandalism would increasingly grow if it is not fixed straight away. I mean, people are inclined to deface the area when it is slightly damaged. However, if an area is clean and not vandalized, people are more likely to respect and look after it.

In terms of why I shared it with them. Well, my boss found that the sanitary condition of the staff toilet was getting worse and worse, my colleagues waste paper was not put into the basket and the water on the washbasin was spilling everywhere. So he called me and several other department heads of the company to have a discussion on this matter. They didnt have a good idea to make employees voluntarily maintain good working conditions, so this psychological case popped into my mind and I shared it with them.

As expected the case was solved within a month. Everyone realized the importance of protecting the sanitation of public areas. You know, they would immediately clean it up after using the bathroom. This experience inspired me a lot, and I think sharing things with others brings me a sense of comfort and self-satisfaction.
